Making Your Blog Posts SEO Friendly
You want your blog posts to be interesting to your readers, but you also need to make sure those posts get found. In the face of everything available on the internet and the algorithm changes Google keeps coming up with, that can be a daunting task. Fortunately, there are ways to make your blog posts SEO friendly, so the search engines will love them and so will your readers. If you optimize your blog posts for the search engines as you write them, you can rest assured that they'll have the best chance of reaching your target audience.
1). Focus your blog posts on only one or two long-tail keywords
It gets confusing for readers and for search engines when you put too many keywords into something. Rather than try to optimize your blog post for a bunch of things and end up ranking poorly for all of them, it's much better to focus your efforts on just a one or two areas. That way, the search engines have more of an opportunity to pick up your post based on the keywords you're really targeting, and your readers feel like they got something out of what they read. 3). Optimize your meta data
Your meta description, title tag, captions on pictures, the names of picture files, and any other "behind the scenes" data that is attached to your blog post should use good SEO practices, just like the blog post itself. When you add your long-tail keywords into the meta information, you can increase your ranking and get found more easily in search, making your blog more likely to get found by the people who are searching for what you have to say.
4). Focus on your URL, too
People should be able to find your blog posts easily, and that means you need a blog that's a part of your URL and easy to find. It should be the name of your website, followed by "/blog." If your website doesn't have a blog attached to it, and customers have to go outside of your site to locate your blog posts, that could confuse them and make them less likely to find you. It may also change the way both your blog and your website rank for keywords, which could keep you from getting found.
5). Don't get carried away with topic tags
Topic tags are important when you want to help readers find blog posts that are going to interest them, but too many topic tags can seem spammy to search engines. The post you're writing should be focused, so tagging it as though it's about a large number of topics really doesn't make the most sense. When you reduce the topic tags for a more targeted approach, you'll have a better response to your post from both your customers and your search engines. That can make a big difference in the ranking and success of that post.
